THIS ISNT A NINTENDO SWITH
Fixed it finally! Thank you!
If you don't mind me asking, I searched your videos but couldn't find one with my situation. We purchased a house that has a "toilet room" that was added on after the home was built. They ran the main power line to the light fixture first, then ran a 2 wire (black and white) 14-2 down to a single pole light switch (1 silver screw, 1 brass screw). There is no outlet in this room and I would like to add one. The easiest thing I could think of is adding a combo Switch/Outlet so I don't have to cut a hole in the wall. However, everything I am finding says you can't do it. You have to have at least 3 wires running to the switch (not including ground) and then tap into the power before it gets to the lamp. Do you have a video explaining a setup like this? I may have missed it in my searches. Thanks.
Is it fine for the hooks on your connections to be out like that? I usually use a needle nose to make it come back to make contact with the copper wire I’m hooking.
Where does the red wire come in on example 1? I only have ground power and neutral wires for my switch
You are my electrician and I am your slow but learning apprentice. You are easy to understand and thorough. 😊
Couldn't figure out why light switch was not working. The cause was that flat metal piece was not cut. Works now. Thank you very much!
you're f-ing awesome… Thanks!!! Some things are timeless!
Thank you for the video, I used this infor to run a switched outlet ro the top of the cabinets. It works great.
I was able to follow both examples just fine. Great job and glad you showed two different hook-ups.
Thank you so much very helpful
From the switch to receptacle, can I then take power from receptacle add some wire to add some led pod lights that I would like to turn on and off with that receptacle?
Thank you so much the tab issue was what I was missing and I was done within 5minutes of hearing that part 😂
thank you saved me on this very helpful.. Amazing 👏
Overcomplicated it. Thank you but still I need a 14 2 example and more clear on the top did not explain gold wire. Talk about black white gold wires and exactly where to put them and exactly how the gold tabs need to be!!! I need to do top example with 14 2 but I'm gonna have to find out somewhere else now
What if I want the bottom outlet connected to a switch and leave the top outlet constant so I could connect and other outlet to it that goes behind my tv on the wall?….If that makes sense.
I love Canadians!
This video made me some money today. Thanks.
Fantastic instructions, I was able to use these steps to add a plug and switch for a new garbage disposal.
awesome man, thanks a lot. i had an idea but this solved all my doubts and probably saved me some material lmao. cheers!
Perfect!
It seems that I owe my kids an apology (sort of)…Thank YOU for your explanation! I always assumed that one of my kids did something to burn out the light switch but I let it pass because they were young and unharmed by anything they might have stuck in the outlet. In my mind, both receptacles still worked just the switch was shot. I bought covers for every outlet and threatened them with DEATH if they removed them! After watching your video I decided to replace the switch and the outlet while I was at it. Replaced the switch, no problem…went to replace the outlet and it turns out that whoever did that part of the wiring in my house never broke that tab out on the outlet for interrupting the circuit. For me, YOU have helped…for my kids, I hope they threaten theirs with DEATH if…😁…apology to them (kind of)…
In the yr 2021 why would anyone want to have this ? I purchased a home that had a switch that controls a lamp because no other lights were installed in the home when it was built. Total mess to rewire the outlets to not control lamps
Clearest explanation yet! Thanks!
Thanks,but need more exmple
So in for to work I need 12/3
Thank you! You helped me figure out the mystery switch in my sons bedroom. The previous owner forgot to break the tab. I ended up replacing the whole receptacle and making sure I broke the tab prior… 🤝
Why use a 14/3 wire for the switch?
Is 14/2 not usable?
