EA Earns The Rights To Star Wars Games
Disney sadly shut down Lucas Arts a couple of weeks ago ending development on all the Star Wars games that were in production at the time. However, today EA announced that they’ve signed a multi-year exclusive licensing agreement with Disney to develop and publish Star Wars games. Disney still owns the rights to publish mobile, social, and online Star Wars games but EA now holds the rights for console games and hand-held games.
Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants stated:
“This agreement demonstrates our commitment to creating quality game experiences that drive the popularity of the Star Wars franchise for years to come. Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world.”
While EA Labels President Frank Gibeau also mentioned:
“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe. Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise.”
