What I Think 343 Industries Needs To Do With Halo Wars

What I Think 343 Industries Needs To Do With Halo Wars

I was a fan of the first Halo Wars. I thought that for a console RTS, it was the one of the best. I really don’t want this great idea of a slightly simplified RTS taking place in the Halo universe to go to waste. Sadly however, it was Ensemble’s last game ever, and thus the franchise torch was passed back to Bungie, and then to 343. I am very excited about a new entry in the series, as of now Microsoft has multiple new systems that I think would work perfectly with this game. So without further adieu, here are the things I want 343 Industries to do with the next Halo Wars.

  1. Voice Control. You should be able to control almost the entire game through voice, similar to what EndWar wanted to do, except this time, it will actually work. It can work through Kinect on Xbox 360 and the 3rd generation Xbox. If possible, PC voice control would be nice, but is a much more daunting task, as the Kinect has built-in voice recognition software, which makes so many developers use it, as it takes away the legwork.
  2. Cross Platform Play. Instead of just releasing the game for Xbox 360, and the third generation Xbox, it should also be released on the same day on the Windows 8/RT store. This would help promote Microsoft’s “Xbox for Windows” push, and allow for play on PC with a keyboard and mouse, as well as a touchscreen. The game would also have cross-platform online play.
  3. Make the story have nothing to do with Halo Wars 1. I feel that the atmosphere of the game would work better in the setting of the Reclaimer trilogy. Imagine being able to play as the UNSC, Rogue Covenant, and the Forerunners. It would be a classic three race RTS.
  4. Make it downloadable. I think this game should be a smaller downloadable game, and not a major release. It should push the downloadable market in both the Xbox Live marketplace and the Windows store.

Alright more experienced Halo fans, comment away.

enjoyed reading your post, I agree with Part 1 but the other 3 seem bit like wishing and dreaming and something that wouldn’t happen.

There no way they could make halo wars smaller fans would be upset because one of the best thing about it are the amazing cutscenes.

I do think however that perhaps having some sort of smart glass integration would be a much better idea and not just for stats but perhaps something like being locked on your base and able to send units out without having to jump back to the base while your amounting an attack one a base.

The part about not following on from halo wars I don’t mind that the great thing about halo is there a whole universe of stories they could look at

Making it downloadable wouldn’t happen due tot he Limit cap of the file size cutscenes couldn’t be in it as there a major part of taking so much space which why skyrim is 3.2GB(I think) and mass effect 2 an 3 are on 2 disks.
If they were to make a small downloadable game for arcade then it would have to be some sort of spin off overhead style game (think tomb raider arcade game) maybe as a Spartan or an elite

Hey Lee, thanks for replying! I do side with what you are saying about the other three parts to a degree. The second part is mostly wishing, as a proud Surface RT owner, and a PC gamer, I would really like to see Microsoft push the Xbox for Windows platform farther than Angry Birds Space.

Your Smartglass idea is REALLY smart (no pun intended), and I wish I thought about that when drafting the article! My biggest peve with the original halo wars was switching and managing bases/units, while I had a battle going on, leaving my troops defenseless. Imagine the power that could come from using a Tablet, and voice recognition combined! You could swap back and forth between your iPad, and your TV, with the TV narrating the whole battle out for you.

The whole downloadable thing was to make it more realistic when it came down to the Xbox 360, 3rd gen, and Windows 8/RT distribution. More or less, Microsoft won’t release a 10GB game on the Windows Store, and it would seem more likely for a download only Xbox Live release. I do understand what you are saying, and the only reason I put it in there is to make the cross platform release make sense.

      Thanks for reading and replying!
