Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition Review
Wayforward has brought their successful 3DSware title Mighty Switch Force over to the Wii U eShop. Officer Patricia Wagon is back in the same puzzles found in Mighty Switch Force but with a new Hyper Drive difficulty that make puzzles even more challenging. Story wise, Officer Patricia Wagon is on a mission to capture the escaped Space Hooligan sisters. Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition is just as fun as the original 3DS game with some slightly better improvements.
Aside from the addition of “Hyper” version of each level, Wayforward has gone back and redrawn every single piece of art in HD. The Hyper levels are very challenging and require a lot of time and patience. Even those who have mastered the regular version of these levels will still find the Hyper versions of these levels. However, the real attraction of Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition is not the Hyper version of the levels but the amazing looking redrawn art work. Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition is a complete HD remake of the original Mighty Switch Force and it looks fantastic. Wayforward’s has been known for its great work with sprites but this HD upgrade looks amazing. Officer Patricia Wagon, the pace Hooligan sisters, and all the enemies have been remade in HD.
Since this is on the Wii U, Wayforward has taken advantage of the Wii U Gamepad and has added the feature to play the entire game on your Gamepad. Switching between your HD TV and your Wii U Gameapad is fantastic. You can be playing on the TV and then take the game on the Gamepad when relaxing on the couch/bed. When playing on the TV, the Gamepad displays your timer (how much time you have left to complete the level).
Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition is a fantastic game but not without its flaws. I would have loved to see some online features added to the game like online leader boards. Being that the game forces you to complete each level under a certain amount of time, an online leader board for time trials would have made so much sense here. Other than that Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition is a great platformer and an excellent edition to the Wii u eShop. Visually Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition looks great in HD and the soundtrack, although the same as the original, it still great and very catchy. Wayforward could have made some much larger improvements with this HD remake but the HD upgrade and Hyper levels suffice. I’m happy to see this HD remake and I look…… way forward…..to seeing what Wayforward will bring to the Wii U.
